Australian Beekeeper Wanted in France

 I am a beekeeper in South of France (with 1000-1400 hives) and I have exchanged with other beekeepers in Kangaroo Island from mid October, to leave on the 10th of March.

Gretchen Wheen, Founder of Wheen Foundation, Passes Away - Friday 6th January

It is with great sadness that beekeepers have learned of the passing of Gretchen Wheen on Thursday 5th January. Gretchen was known throughout the Australian beekeeping world as a queen breeder of exceptional ability, and recently bequeathed her estate to the Australian Beekeeping Industry by means of the Wheen Foundation. Despite failing health, the Foundation and her active involvement in its work gave Gretchen a new lease of life over the past two years.

Hives Stolen In Victoria

150 Hives were stolen from a DSE beesite, some 40km north of Bendigo, between 12th December and 20th December. The hives belonged to Norm Collins of Bendigo, were branded C126, and were all brand new equipment, (boxes/lids and bases), as were the pallets under the hives. The beesite was in Kamarooka State Park, and the hives were a mixture of doubles and singles.

Tamworth 'Beekeeping as a Business' Course Deferred

The next NSWDPI ProFarm 'Beekeeping as a Business' Course, which was scheduled for the end of August at Tamworth, has been canclled becuase of low numbers. The Course will now be held at EMAI, Camden, in 2012, on a date to be determined.

Wheen Foundation Website Up and Running

The Wheen Foundation Website is now up and running, and reflects the establishment of the When Foundation, created as a result of a generous bequest from well-known honeybee identities, Gretchen and the late Frank Wheen.  Its broad purpose is to support research, development and training which will benefit beekeepers and pollination dependent industries.
