Seminar to Honour Gretchen Wheen's Contribution to Beekeeping

Gretchen Wheen died on 7 January 2012 after a lifetime devoted to beekeeping, queen rearing and stock improvement. Gretchen gifted her estate to the Wheen Bee Foundation which supports research, development and public awareness of the importance of beekeeping to food security.
A one-day seminar is planned for early March 2013 at Richmond to celebrate the life of Gretchen. Its theme will be “The Future of Honeybee Stock Improvement”. Some outstanding speakers from Australia and overseas have been invited to speak.
The seminar will be followed by the sale of select queens from stock purchased and improved by Gretchen and a group of prominent beekeepers. The stock was the original Eastern Australia Bee Breeding Program.
Further details will be published in the January issue of ABK.
