Hive Scales - Different types and their use

Hive weighing has been one of the oldest technologies of measuring physical values in beekeeping. Beekeepers realised as far back as tens of years ago that they can determine by hive weighing, without opening the hive, if and in which amount the bees had brought in sweet content. Czechs especially have been big researchers in this way. They placed hives onto manual scales, lifted them up, later they tried digital personal and kitchen scales. Constructions working on hydraulic principles succeeded also very well (small plastic pillows filled by coloured liquid which rose and dropped down according to the weight in connected vertical pipe).
